Just practicing painting techniques. Also this is a possible design for a new character. Not sure yet.

First off, I have to say that I think the more muted color palette you've chosen for this piece works very well. The colors throughout are consistent but not boring at all, with beautiful, subtle shifts in color and tone. There is a painterly feel about the strokes and a smoothness that lends itself to the style of the picture. Still, there are one or two things you might consider if ever you chose to alter the piece or in the future.

I do think the muted background is good. The different colors and no defined detail give a feel as though it were captured by a camera with a soft focus. This lets us bring our eyes more easily to the focus of the art itself: the lioness. The light on the lioness is also very good, highlighting the shapes very well. However, I think the hazy "glow" behind the lioness is a little distracting. It isn't necessarily bad and doesn't destroy the image by any means, but I feel like it could be softer or darker. If any part of the background needed something less painterly, it might be that area (or perhaps not! After all, I'm only stating my thoughts on it. Perhaps others will agree - yourself included! - or perhaps not... but I digress. :)) The strokes on this light are rougher, more defined and in my mind at least, it seems like they should be softer if anything else.

I absolutely love the lighting on the lioness herself. The sunlight is so warm and is set off nicely by the cool shadows. The only thing I could really say for it is that some of the lines (on her chest and under her chin mainly) could possibly be a little darker for contrast.

Finally, I think perhaps she could use more fur/texture in a couple of areas (mainly in her ears and on her tail). Her chin already has a pretty good example of what I'm thinking of. I don't think the smoothness in the other areas is an issue, so much as it is the edges of these areas are already a little furry, but it doesn't show in the texture beyond the blurred edges.

Not bad. I actually feel as if this could go further though - that it could be "more complete" and stronger.

I'll be the first to admit that I rate very hard on the originality scale since I don't really think there is any "true" originality. I have nothing bad to say about the artwork here, only that I have seen more "original" thinks and less "original" things.

Very good I think. Great eye for light and an overall consistent style (except maybe for the strokes on the light).

There is soft, gentle feel to the picture which I rather like.

You've done a wonderful job, *Palone-Omi - keep it up!

If you have questions or disagree with anything I've said please let me know! I've only put my own thoughts/opinions here... at least in some places. I have tried, otherwise, to be objective in my treatment of your artwork, reacting on a technical level rather than emotional.

I "rate" art based on
everything I've seen in the past so you might disregard the ratings themselves. I've at least tried to explain why I've rated it the way I have. :)
